People who are suffering from emotional issues often seek help in various mental health clinics. Although some may be under the misconception that mental health clinics are for those who are mentally ill, the institution is also responsible for people who are suffering from depression and problems with their psychological well-being.
What you should look for in a mental health clinic
When looking for a mental health clinic, the first thing a person must consider is the reputation of the people working within the premises. Remember that you will be trusting these people with your health and thus it is only right for you to ask pertinent questions that may affect your life. Ask the opinion of different people regarding the clinic to get a better view of what you are availing for yourself.
Getting advice from a health professional
Health care professionals are likely to have excellent recommendations when it comes to mental health clinics. However, make sure that you get your advice from trusted health professionals who will not stir you wrong. Do not be afraid to ask questions and try to bring up your concerns to get honest opinions and answers.
When looking for the best mental health clinics, do not forget to browse around for periods of time before settling on a particular one. Keep in mind that finding the best one is just a matter of research and may be accomplished provided a person is determined enough.

New mommies are usually riding emotional roller coasters wherein they are happy one minute and sad the next. For some, this only lasts for a week, earning it the name Baby Blues.
What is Post Partum depression?
A condition that takes far longer than the Baby Blues is termed Post Partum depression. This usually settles in for weeks, depending on the person suffering from the condition. Mommies who have this often feel worthless, fatigued and restless. This condition may develop into more serious cases when the mother stops eating or becomes paranoid. When this happens, hospitalization is required.
How do you deal with post partum depression?
The most common way to deal with post partum depression is through talk therapy. This way, a woman can talk about her feelings, possible causes of the depression and ways to resolve the issue. However, in some cases antidepressants are prescribed while others undergo hormone therapy. This is because experts believe that post partum depression is caused by hormone changes during pregnancy.
Post partum depression can be resolved through talks with the spouse or when participating a group therapy session. More often than not, offering support is the best way to deal with someone who suffers from the condition. Keep in mind that post partum depression when left on its own can harm both the mother and the baby. Hence, make sure to pay attention to your spouse and talk things out before they become an issue.

While it is the conventional way to go to a shrink’s clinic the moment you feel depressed, there are ways for you to handle the blues by simple activities you can do by yourself.
Run or jog to release the “happy” hormone.
Studies have shown that exercises like running or jogging enhances one's mood and creates a feeling of being high. This is because prolonged and intense physical activity releases endorphins or what is commonly called as the “happy” hormone. These hormones are neurotransmitters, which reduce pain and induce euphoria.
Distract yourself with activities.
Aside from exercise, engage in activities that are enjoyable or explore new ones such as taking up a hobby. Going out and doing something will give you a sense of purpose. At the very least, doing something with a goal will take your mind off your depression.
Sharing your thoughts with other people will also help. Instead of going to a shrink, why not open up to a friend? A real friend will take time to listen.

Anger is a natural human emotion. Anger management doesn’t mean the prevention of anger or knowing how to hold it in. Rather, it is learning how to express or let out your anger appropriately. Here are some basic tips on how to manage your anger:
Do some breathing exercises.
If you feel angry, try some breathing exercises to ease the tension inside your body. Deep breathing is simple, easy to do, and can be done anywhere. First, you have to sit or stand in a relaxed manner. Inhale through your nose in five counts and exhale through your mouth in eight counts. Repeat until you feel calm.
Get some air and space.
Take a break from the argument as it escalates by going out for a walk and taking in some air. You create a space from the situation and have the opportunity to reflect about what happened as well.
If you really have to talk back, try counting to ten before you speak. This will give you the chance to think before saying something you might regret.

It all starts in the mind. Being healthy doesn’t just mean having to eat the right foods, doing the right exercises, getting enough sleep, and having a healthy lifestyle. You also have to possess a positive frame of mind.
Reduced stress
By being more optimistic, you shield yourself from negative events that are likely to happen. You will tend to blame yourself less and be more enthusiastic in trying again in case of failure. Thus, failure will not affect you as much, which means you will be not as stressed and worried.
Renewed energy and alertness
When you face life with a positive outlook, you will feel more energetic and alert. This is because you will have the strength to bounce back from failures and mistakes. You will not be weighed down by negative emotions and feelings of inadequacy.
A positive mindset does lead to a healthier body. One will have a stronger, healthy heart as positive thinking reduces emotional stress, which is often linked to causing heart problems.

It's always been an obsession for me to find out how Arnold Schwazenneger sculpted his muscular body into fine shape. I had this feeling since his "Terminator" days, when I still enjoyed the action in his movies. But now that he's already a respected governor of California, I'm more curious to find out how he ended up in politics from body building. But let's not discriminate gym aficionados. If they have the discipline to enhance their body structure, maybe they have the same wit as well.
On my first trip to Hollywood, I searched for a gym, hoping that I'll catch a glance of some Hollywood fitness fanatics who might be doing their workouts. It then led me to the Hollywood Gym. It was founded in 1988, but the modern fitness equipment don't make this fact obvious. I looked for a fitness trainer and asked about the sessions. He said that he had handled famous Hollywood celebrities over the years. Hollywood Gym had become the best place for him to share his body building expertise.
The Hollywood Gym is a state-of-the-art fitness and health center. It is located right at the core of the famous Hollywood in California. Aside from their fitness programs, the gym offers yoga, weight training, boxing, and spinning. With their first-class amenities and premiere services, you'll be treated like a true Hollywood star. I just wish I have the same body of a "Terminator," Arnold Schwazenneger.

We only know pilates as a fitness method but behind the stirred popularity is a man whose sincere devotion and faith stirred bedridden soldiers of World War I into activity. Using the power of body and mind, Joseph H. Pilates revolutionized our physical and mental health into one invincible principle and discipline known as pilates. From gymnasts and dancers, Hollywood actors and even common law citizens, everybody can benefit from this state-of-the-art program.

Pilates is a mind and body routine inspired by techniques from Chinese martial arts and yoga. It develops flexibility, endurance, strength and muscle coordination. There are two methods of exercise: mat exercises and the use of machines. Either of the two will help sculpt your body into a great shape. Using controlled movements, pilates enhances circulation and overall health through resistance, toning, and coordination. Your body and mind can achieve total performance with pilates.

Contrary to what history has to say, Germans didn't solely play the role of antagonists during World War I. Some became hope to immobile victims of war. Through Joseph Pilates, different programs and exercise methods succeeded in inspiring precision, breathing, flow, movement, and control. As a young boy, Pilates was a sick child. But even his frail body was no match to a solid dream that one day, he would be just as strong as any athlete. So he gave himself hope and later joined different sports. He then became an athlete, a WWI nurse, and a great fitness guru.

We are always thirsty -- thirsty for fun, and thrill in activities. But when quenching our body thirst, we just don't know which bottle or beverage to turn to. More likely, we'll wind up with a cold soda or a steaming coffee. Man, we just made Starbucks an international success and Pepsi a pop sensation. But even if we drink gallons of these liquids, we go through everyday dehydrated of our real need. Why? Because 83% of our blood is water. What's more, 74% of water is in our brain, and 22% in our bone. You don't expect a cola to run through your veins and stir up your brain cells.

We no longer need to search for miracles. We can have it right from our fridge-- bland, colorless, but miraculous. Drinking 8 glasses of water daily rejuvenates energy, enhances physical and mental performance, pushes away toxins and waste, makes skin look young and glowing, helps reduce weight, and improves digestion. If we only listen to our bodies screaming for water all the time, then maybe we won't have to suffer much from sickness and stress. Water perks us up to early recovery and invigorates our immune system. We don't need to contaminate our body with additives and caffeine. If you want to live healthy and perform fully, water's your friend.

We're so used to color and taste, that drinking water may not be a fun idea at all. But if you'll suffer from dehydration, I'm sure, even the tasteless liquid will be tempting enough for you. Drink water as soon as you wake up. When you're chilling, take a gulp of warm water because tea and coffee can be dehydrating. If you're feeling thristy, it means that you're already dehydrated so set an alarm and fulfill your 8-glass requirement. Coffee, tea and sodas are thieves. They rob water from your body, so to make up for this loss, a few extra glasses will help. Live longer, drink water.

Can you imagine life without stress? We find ourselves torn and frayed during nerve-racking moments but without it, life seems boring and less fun. Come to think of it, stress helps you release your energy and passion. Oftentimes, it is also behind your willful motivation. Our goal should not focus on getting rid of stress but to help our body and mind manage it well. Stress is not bad. It may sometimes make us feel knotty and sullen yet the lack of it may make us feel listless and bored. The solution for stress is to find the optimal level that we can personally sustain.
Sunday, May 6. 2007
What is stress? Our bodies wear out from every experience and situation we encounter daily. But this is a normal reaction from the ever changing phase of our environment. We always strive to keep up with the demands and challenges so our immediate impulse is to feel tension and pressure for both the body and mind. Stress can produce two results, one is positive and the other is negative. Normally, death, loss or aggravating scenarios make us feel depressed, angry or distrustful. In this case, overreaction of stress to the body can sometimes lead to health problems. On the other hand, the more positive influence will push us more to creativity and motivation. And if I were you, I'd dwell on the more pleasant effects of our emotions and strength.
Saturday, May 5. 2007
Everyone is unique, each with his own strengths and weakneses, hence, response to stressful situations may vary. There is no single formula for an optimal level of stress. We have different physiological and psychological make-up and even with the same experience, we may not express the same emotion. However, we all should unlock a way to counter unrelieved stress. First, know the source of stress and learn the value of change. Whenever you're emotionally provoked, try to minimize the intensity of your emotional and physical reaction. Build up your physical reserve while you maintain an emotional balance. It's your escape out of stress.

After turning to a flabby mess now that you're already a mommy, you can work on firming your paunch belly. But you will have to wait for several months for your body to return to its natural form and shape. You certainly won't get rid of the doughy look. But don't worry, you don't have to ache your back doing stomach crunches or sit ups. The effective and faster way is to focus on your abs with transverse exercises. From a stomach so huge and mushy, it will become firm and strong with a little work out.
Thursday, May 3. 2007
Why do you need transverse exercises? Because we often overlook this group of abdominal muscles called the transverse muscles. Lying deeply as abdominal muscles, it serve as a girdle to the middle section of your body. It also keep your organ in place as it lies horizontally and put pressure onto your abs. Hit the jackpot for they are the muscles you need to work on for a firmer belly. They are connected to your rectus abdominals and back muscles as well. Better start a new fitness work out to supress the bulging disaster.
Wednesday, May 2. 2007
Stomach crunches or sit- ups tend to miss the transverse abs. There's more pain but lesser glory. So if you want an effective abdominal fitness regime, you may try Pilates which include exercises that target the transverse area. You can also try to hold your stomach in or keep a straight back to tighten the muscles of your abs. Regular diligence and diet will make you look like Eva Langoria of the Desperate Housewives while you hit the street with renewed confidence and self-esteem from having a sexy body.

Every once in a while, depression knocks on our door. Even if we want to be rude, we cannot simply rebuff its call. We need to slip in and out of it to finally deal with pain, agony, and misery. So long as it doesn't invade the privacy of our home, then we can tolerate some visits from the impertinent guest. But once depression holds you hostage in your own turf, you may need help to unlock the chains of your imprisonment. You need not wallow in the dark much longer than you should. You can search for the light because God permits the sun to shine every damn day of our lives.

We suffer deeply from the torment of having our spirits locked up in solitude and slavery, but do you know who's the mastermind behind your listlessness? Who else but your treacherous brain! It has concocted a delicate chemistry for emotional catastrophe. The accomplice? Your very own neurotransmitter which transports messages between brain nerve cells and regulates mood. When there's not alter supply and imbalance, this neurotransmitter dilemma results to depression. Of course, it's only human to react to sadness and grief but even without these emotional factors, you may still suffer from depression for no reason at all. It may be all spelled out in your genes that predisposes you to neurotransmitter imbalance.

Once you're hooked, you cannot simply snap out of it just as easy. You first need to understand why you're depressed and what causes your ill mood or behavior. You may also consult a doctor for medication which sometimes involve psychotherapy or prescription of anti-depressant pills. But on a personal note, I've always believed that the key to recovery just lies within you. You need to sort it all out, all the stress and sorrow and maybe then you'll be able to find cure to loneliness and grief. It can be frustrating, but it will take time before you can tackle depression down. Just a little faith and there's a chink of hope somewhere, somehow you'll be able to lift your spirits up high.

When you let it all out, you turn into a monster and will regret the things you said a minute after. But if you bottle it up, you are creating a poison that will soon creep through your veins, ruin your whole system, and corrupt your moral confidence and character. Once you suppress it, your body struggles along with your heart and mind, which is not healthy. But when you overindulge in it, you're blood pressure rises to insanity. Any minute you may suffer from a nervous breakdown or heart attack. Anger can be a health risk. So which is better, to be a monster or to self-destruct in the future? Well, life always confronts us with the vanity and flaw, so if I were you, I'll put a rein on it so I could manipulate the life changing spills of anger.
Friday, April 27. 2007
Inside you is a blazing inferno. But don't open your mouth just yet. Clench your fist and breathe deeply. Think like a human being because you're not a vicious leopard who has to strike any minute. Hold it and then release your breath to a soothing calm. Slowly unleash anger into reasonable being. Let rationality take over your fuming rage and your inner devil will soon transform into a gentle angel. Sometimes, all we need is a little time, a fraction of a minute so we can always do the best out of a steaming situation. Once you lash a strip of anger out, you won't be able to bring it back. What's said and done will take its course and you're left with no choice but to bear the pain and anguish of hurt or guilt. Take your time, even a second can change an entire lifetime.

When you cage a tiger and deprive him of the wild, what do you think will happen? He'll scratch and pounce at anything, struggling to flee and get out. You'll only drive him wild, and he'll be upset for sure. You may sedate the tiger, but he'll never ever forget the nature of his being, the madness of his freedom. That's how anger will soon pounce and scratch at your ego and confidence. No matter how hard you try to bottle it up, it will soon overflow and it may be too late before you can contain it. You're only creating your inner demon if you try to stop it. What will you do to a plummeting confidence level? How will you assert a true character if you'll forever keep mum? You'll end up frustrated and soon, without you knowing it, you'll punish yourself from anger. There's one life, once chance to make things right. Speak up and let yourself be heard, but do it in a right way without risking your health, hurting other people's feelings, and crushing your confidence. Be sharp yet calm and reasonable. All you need is to let it out with care.

Every damn day of our lives poses a new challenge. There are no telling how, when, or where, but we almost seem to be struck with the most unimaginable things to happen. So how do you keep your hopes high when fate messes with our ways. It's a common deal to worry about things. To fear death, accidents, and ill-fortune. But to let anxiety ruin a normal life? That's obsessive compulsive disorder.
